The Jeune Garde

Since its first rehearsal in January 1996 and its first concert at the Espace-galerie Placette on 27 April 1996, the Jeune Garde Landwehr has gone from strength to strength, becoming a benchmark ensemble for the training of young musicians in the canton.

The JGL, currently conducted by António Novais, organises a variety of activities that reinforce its spirit of camaraderie and identity. Every year, it takes part in the Landwehr’s annual gala concert, where it opens with a few pieces from its repertoire. To prepare for the various concerts, the JGL committee organises a 2-day music camp for all the young musicians. The JGL is also invited to perform at various events in the canton of Fribourg (1 August, exhibitions, the Grand Rue market in Fribourg, St Nicolas) and outside the canton, giving them the opportunity to broaden their musical experience. In 2011, the JGL performed at the swearing-in ceremony of the Swiss Guards in Rome. During the year, it also organises outings without instruments, which are always a lot of fun. In September 2019, the JGL took part in the upper class (Oberstuffe) at the Federal Youth Music Festival #Burgdorf19.

The ensemble’s aim is to offer musical training to young people wishing to learn and discover a wind band instrument. The Landwehr Music School (EML) offers every child (from an early age) the chance to learn music and then continue their musical education with an instrument. The teachers at the EML, all music professionals, are there to welcome them and share their passion.
